ISLAMABAD: The Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad has specified that stern action would be taken against vehicle owners who have yet to pay their token tax.

Registration of vehicles whose owners do not pay dues, starting from January 1, 2024, will be suspended as a further consequence. This means defaulters will take up penalties inducing hefty 200% fines.

The department requests a 20-day grace period which would facilitate compliance. Vehicle owners who have defaulted will be imminently advised to make their payments to avoid further action.

The Islamabad Deputy Commissioner, Memon, raised the matter and instructed that there would be severe action against strong vehicles coming with default in token tax.

This is part of a series of intensive efforts by the Federal Board of Revenue to achieve a tax collection target of Rs 980 billion by December. The incumbent Government of the day has pledged that it would be resolute in its fight against those high-ranking tax evaders and individuals filing nil returns and after having successfully collected only Rs775 billion in the first four months of the fiscal year, from skinny billion.
