Pakistan becomes first outside China to assemble Tank 500 PHEV

ISLAMABAD: Great Wall Motor (GWM), in collaboration with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, has officially announced the launch of CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly of its flagship luxury SUV, the Tank 500. This development marks a significant milestone for Pakistan’s automotive industry. The occasion also celebrated GWM’s successful five-year presence in Pakistan, reflecting the brand’s commitment to innovation, local production, and premium mobility.

The prestigious ceremony was attended by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Division as the chief guest. The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Sun Yan, was also present, highlighting the strengthening industrial and economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Pakistan has now become the first country outside China where the Tank 500 PHEV is being assembled. This achievement demonstrates GWM’s confidence in the Pakistani market and its long-term investment in local manufacturing. Since partnering with Sazgar, GWM has rapidly established a strong presence in Pakistan’s SUV segment.

GWM Pakistan’s Country Manager stated that the CKD assembly of the Tank 500 is a major milestone for the company in Pakistan.

The Chief Executive Officer of Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, Mian Asad Hameed, said:
“Our partnership with GWM is strengthening the country’s automotive industry through local production, advanced technology, and world-class manufacturing.”

Chief Operating Officer of Sazgar Engineering, Mian Ali Hameed, added:

Over the past five years, the company has gained consumer trust and introduced globally renowned models like the HAVAL H6, which have received strong appreciation on Pakistani roads.
