LAHORE: The Punjab Government has launched the “CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025,” under which more than 1,000 e-taxis will be provided on easy and interest-free loans.

The plan, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is set to officially launch in August 2025.

The government is set to achieve three goals from the Scheme.

  • To modernise transport in Punjab
  • To create new jobs
  • To reduce pollution in major cities

The Punjab Transport Department has confirmed that applications will be managed through an online portal built by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

A total of  30 electric taxis will be reserved for women.

To ensure that drivers only pay the bare minimum, the government will also cover the markup, token tax, and registration costs.

How to Apply for CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025

Applicants will need to use the PITB-supported online portal to apply for the CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025 when it becomes live. The steps are:

  •  CNIC, driving licence, and proof of residency in Punjab.
  • Fleet owners must also provide company details and SECP or NTN registration.
  • Create an account on the portal and fill in the e-taxi application form.
  • Select whether you are applying as an individual driver or a fleet owner.
  • Choose the instalment plan and check the payment schedule.
  • Submit the form and wait for eligibility checks.
  • If approved, applicants will receive an offer letter with details on vehicle delivery and training.

One hundred cabs will be distributed to individual drivers and 1,000 to fleet owners in the first phase of the E-Taxi Scheme 2025. Thirty of these cabs are designated for female passengers.

Electric sedans and hatchbacks with a range of up to 300 kilometers between charges are anticipated among the cars.

In order to maintain the seamless operation of the cabs, the  Scheme will also install solar-powered charging stations and servicing centers. Lahore will be the first city in Punjab to have charging stations erected, followed by other cities.
