ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken notice of unverified reports circulating on various media platforms claiming that the last date for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025 will be extended.
It added that some elements have also tried to link this supposed extension with the recent floods.
The FBR clearly clarifies that these reports are false, baseless and misleading as the last date for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025 will not be extended.
It also highlighted that a large majority of taxpayers reside in areas not affected by the floods and have ample time to fulfill their national obligation of filing returns.
Reports suggesting that the IRIS system is slow are also baseless. The FBR’s IRIS platform is fully operational, working smoothly, and taxpayers can easily file their returns using the new simplified Income Tax Return Form.
The FBR warned that failure to file returns by the due date will result in late filer status and penalties as per the law.
“The FBR urges all eligible taxpayers to act responsibly and file their income tax returns accurately and honestly before the due date of September 30, 2025 to avoid any legal consequences.”
In case of extreme hardship, taxpayers can seek an extension of up to fifteen days in filing their returns with the approval of the relevant committee as per the law, with payment of the tax due by September 30.
