KARACHI: Flour price decreased in the wholesale market in Karachi, which has brought relief to the lower class.

In the wholesale market of the city, the price of the flour per kg has decreased by Rs 16.

After a reduction in the price of wheat by Rs 5 to Rs 87 per kg, flour is currently being sold at Rs 106 per kg.

A 50 kg bag of flour is being sold for Rs 5,300 in the famous wholesale market Jodia Bazar. Despite this reduction in prices, the Commissioner Karachi is yet to release the updated price list, although earlier the Commissioner had fixed the rate of flour at Rs 123 per kg for Ramadan.

Recently, on March 23, a shopkeeper in Karachi’s Jodia Bazaar faced penalties for selling flour at a price lower than the official rate.

The Karachi Wholesaler Grocers Group (KWGG) expressed dissatisfaction over the fines imposed on the retailer, and they threatened to organize a shutter-down strike in protest against what they perceive as injustice.

During the market visit, a team from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office inspected the prices and food items sold at various shops in Jodia Bazaar. During the inspection, a retailer was found to be selling flour at a low price, prompting further scrutiny.
