InDrive under fire after multiple cases of drivers’ misconduct reported

ISLAMABAD: InDrive, a ride-hailing company, is facing growing public backlash after several troubling incidents raised alarming questions about passengers’ safety, particularly concerning the female passengers, and the company’s accountability.

In a case on July 8, 2025, a female customer hired an InDrive Cargo Bike to collect clothing items worth Rs. 80,000 from her tailor in I-13, Islamabad. After collecting the clothes, the driver abruptly switched off his phone and vanished, effectively stealing the items.

When the victim contacted InDrive’s customer care, she was told that the only action the company could take was to block the driver’s account, which she described as an irresponsible and unacceptable response from the company.

According to the woman, she visited the company office in Islamabad the next day but was merely handed a form requiring police verification to proceed further. She then approached the local police station in I-13, where officers responded swiftly and submitted a formal inquiry to InDrive.

“Despite this, the company provided only minimal information and declined further cooperation, citing internal policies,” she added.

In another incident, earlier this week, a video went viral on social media showing an InDrive driver, identified as Bilal, allegedly engaging in a sexually explicit act in front of a female passenger while driving.

According to the reports, the above-mentioned driver has been previously accused of similar behavior, including exposing himself and stalking female passengers. One woman reported that Bilal followed her after a ride, tracking her from Islamabad’s I-8 sector.

These repeated allegations have led to widespread concerns among women who rely on such ride-hailing platforms for daily transport. Social media users have demanded immediate regulatory oversight, background checks, and better accountability measures for app-based transportation services.

In response to the backlash, InDrive’s official account posted a delayed apology, stating, “We sincerely apologize for this incident. We have permanently removed the driver and are working closely with the police.”

“Our insurance policy has been activated to support the customer. We treat such cases with zero tolerance and remain committed to safety.”
