KARACHI: The Karachi administration has fixed the official retail price of fresh milk at Rs 220 per litre, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The notification was issued by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi under the Sindh Essential Commodities Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act, 2005.

The new order also fixes the price from dairy farms at Rs. 200 per liter and the wholesale rate at Rs. 208 per liter. These rates come into effect immediately and shall remain in force until further orders.

It has been ordered by the authorities that no person, society, or shopkeeper should sell milk at rates other than the prescribed prices.

In order to make the sale of milk uniform, the administration has completely banned the selling of milk on a seer basis and ordered the sale on a per-liter basis. The notification makes it clear that quality and hygiene in milk should be in accordance with SOPs and that public awareness of this must be created through visible notifications displayed around the city.

It includes an appeal to the consumers and shopkeepers to adhere to the official rate to avoid penalties.
