KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a drop in electricity prices by Rs1.55 per unit nationwide in Pakistan, including Karachi.

As per reports, this reduction has been given in electricity prices under the third quarterly adjustment of the current fiscal year. With regards to NEPRAs official notification, the amended electricity prices will be applicable for the months of May to July.

The decision is hoped to give huge financial relief to power consumers across the country. The reduction in electricity prices will include the benefit of electricity consumers of Rs 52.6 billion.

People in residential and commercial use are also expected to notice a reduction in their subsequent electricity bills. NEPRA has said that the cut in electricity prices is due to better management and efficiency in the power sector.

The aforementioned can also be seen as the government assisting with inflation and relieving existing economic pressure on people. The variation in electricity prices will be automatically reflected in the bills from the next few months, so that both households and institutions can get relief.
