ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has fixed the minimum retail price of tea in Pakistan at Rs 1200 per kg.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a notification to increase the retail price of the team in the country.
The notification states that the new price will be applicable to both import and supply across Pakistan.
It further said that sales tax on import and supply of tea will be levied on fixed price basis. If tea is imported or supplied at a price higher than the retail price prescribed by the FBR, sales tax will be levied on this excess price.
Reports say that setting a minimum price of Rs 1,200 per kg will further increase the market price of tea leaves.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data shows that Pakistanis consumed tea worth Rs 31 billion in just two months (July and August) in 2023.
