ISLAMABAD: Prices for common goods and vegetables have increased as a result of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest and the ensuing road closures, which has caused significant annoyance to the general population.

Fruits and vegetables cannot reach the marketplace because of the blockades, which allows profiteers to take advantage of them.

Tomatoes have skyrocketed to Rs 700 per kg in Sialkot, while green chilies, cauliflower, potatoes, and onions are selling for Rs 400, Rs 300, and Rs 250 per kg, respectively. The cost of other veggies has increased from Rs. 100 to Rs. 150 per kg. Apples cost Rs. 400 per kg, while bananas cost Rs. 150 per dozen.

Similar disruptions have led prices for tomatoes, potatoes, ginger, and onions to increase from Rs. 150 to Rs. 400, Rs. 120 to Rs. 200, and Rs. 600 to Rs. 1000 per kg, respectively, in Gujarat.

These days, a kilogram of cauliflower costs Rs. 240, a kilogram of capsicum costs Rs. 400, a kilogram of turnips costs Rs. 100, and an eggplant costs Rs. 100.

Due to the end of the harvesting season in colder regions of Balochistan, vegetable costs are also skyrocketing in Quetta. Onions went from costing Rs. 80 to Rs. 140 per kg, green peas from Rs. 300, tomatoes from Rs. 100 to Rs. 180–200 per kg, and okra from Rs. 250–300 per kg. The price of potatoes is Rs. 100.
