KARACHI: Sindh Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Sharjeel Memon has announced the ban on unregistered vehicles across the province, here on Tuesday.

The move aims to streamline vehicle registration and enhance regulatory compliance on Sindh’s roads.

Addressing a session of the Sindh Assembly, Minister Memon outlined the new law, which mandates car registration before vehicles leave the showroom.

Currently, car owners have a 60-day window to register their vehicles. He said that we will soon introduce this amendment in the assembly, and it will be applicable to both locally assembled and imported cars.

Elaborating on the details of the imported vehicles, Memon noted that all such cars enter Pakistan through Karachi port. If the vehicle is for Karachi, its registration will be done at the port. Vehicles bound for other provinces will be transported by carriers or trucks and will not be allowed to ply on Sindh roads.

The minister also addressed the longstanding practice of using “Applied For” number plates, which allow unregistered cars to be driven during the 60-day registration period. “We want to end this culture,” he asserted.
