ISLAMABAD: In a move to strengthen the bilateral ties between Pakistan and America, US President Donald Trump has resumed financing for two prime projects.
The two key projects include the Merit Scholarship under the Pakistan University Student Program (Phase II) and the FATA Infrastructure Program, in a significant development for Pakistani citizens.
US Embassy in Islamabad’s spokesperson verified the news with media that the US is reorganizing foreign assistance programs in Pakistan.
“We still support life-saving programs and are making strategic investments that make our partners stronger and our nation stronger,” the spokesperson added.
USAID used to give direct funding to government entities (Government-to-Government or G2G) as well as NGOs working in Pakistan.
Existing talks between the US Embassy and Pakistan’s Economic Affairs Division are about the wider resumption of USAID operations, with a focus on maintaining transparency and accountability in the direct disbursement of funds to NGOs.
Pakistani officials welcomed the development, saying it would improve monitoring and align aid programs with the national development priorities of the country.
The two countries’ long-standing development partnership is poised to gain new vigor with the revival of these two initiatives.
