ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has announced a decision to change Pakistani passports. As per the latest reports, the authorities are mulling adding the mother’s name as a mandatory feature, along with the father’s name, for new passports.
According to a spokesperson for the Passport and Immigration department, the decision to include the mother’s name has been made keeping in mind the social needs and in line with international standards.
The spokesperson said that this move aims to meet international requirements.
Regarding those already in possession of passports without this update, no final decision has been announced so far, the spokesperson said. There is a possibility of passport holders requiring issuance of a new passport, but there is a higher likelihood that the new update will be applicable only for new issuances.
Officials say that the current passports will remain valid until their due date, and the new change will be applied to passports issued in the future.
