Cambridge cautions people of fake social media posts regarding A-level paper leak

KARACHI: The Cambridge International Education (CIE) on Saturday cautioned people of fake WhatsApp and social media posts “made to look like they were issued by Cambridge” following the alleged leak of A Level examination paper.

“Official updates and information are only communicated through our official Facebook page and official communication channels with schools, directly or through the British Council,” the CIE stated on Facebook.

The general public was urged to exercise caution when it came to the veracity of communications they obtained through other means of communication.

Prior to their April 2 exam, students had already reported on social media, particularly in Facebook groups, that the “AS Level Mathematics Paper” had been leaked online.

They claimed that the exam-related social media messages unsettled them because they were afraid the paper might be canceled and negatively affect their grades. They had worked diligently for their exams, therefore they regretted the leak and called it a shameful affair.

The CIE “launched an inquiry” into the AS paper leak following the appearance of such accusations and associated controversy on the internet.

The Cambridge promised not to share any further details through Facebook comments or direct messaging, but to provide an update on the subject when they had more information. It said, “Thank you for your support and understanding.”

Assuring a seamless and safe examination experience for all candidates is a top priority for Cambridge and the British Council, which stated, “We will continue to work closely with schools to uphold the integrity and fairness of our exams.”
