President Zardari appoints Punjab, KP and Balochistan governors

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday approved the appointments of governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan, President’s Office said in a statement.

Sardar Salim Haider Khan has been appointed as the Governor of Punjab. President Zardari also appointed Faisal Karim Kundi as the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Jaffar Khan Mandokhail as the Governor of Balochistan.

According to the notification, the approval of the governor’s appointments has been granted in accordance with Article 101(1) of the Constitution.

Yesterday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PP) finalized Faisal Karim Kundi and Sardar Salim Haider for governors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, respectively.

Sources familiar with the development claimed that Bilawal Bhutto approved Sardar Salim Haider’s name for governor of Punjab.

It is pertinent to mention that Sardar Salim Haider was elected MNA from Attock in 2008 on the PPP ticket and served as Foreign Minister during the PPP tenure. While newly appointed Governor KP Faisal Karim Kundi lost the recently held elections from CM KP Ali Amin Gandapur.
