Education department expects early summer holidays in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab School department has asked the government for the early announcement to the summer holidays in Punjab schools amid the warning issues by the met office of scorching heatwaves in the coming months, according to media reports.

The education department is seeking to start the holidays as early as 1st June,2025, media reported.

A formal summary has been moved by the education department for consideration by the Chief Minister, Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.

Education Secretary Khalid Nazeer Wattoo said, “We have forwarded a summary to the CM Office for the final decision on the summer vacations.” Heatwave forecasts may cause summer vacations to begin early, he said.

Meanwhile, school hours are still not reduced despite various heatwave warnings, parents complained while urging the government to act quickly and reduce school time.

The parents also demanded an early announcement of the schedule of summer vacations.

Heatwave advisory for public & private schools:

As the heatwave continues to worsen throughout the province, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) has issued an urgent alert for all public and private schools.

The institutions are being directed to take action to protect the children and the teachers from the heatwave, providing them with clean and cold drinking water. Students are required to drink at least eight to ten glasses of water to keep themselves hydrated.

Furthermore, Students are requested to stay indoors during the warmest hours of the day and stay away from any outside activity at that time. Schools must use fans and air coolers to enhance circulation and hold classes in well-ventilated spaces.

The advisory also directed the school administrations on the necessity of the awareness campaign about the heatwave. First Aid kits are being made necessary in every school, with teachers to know how to handle the heatwave crises.
