ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan will distribute free electric bikes to outstanding students of all education boards of Pakistan, including the Federal Board.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced that the federal government will provide electric rickshaws and loaders to unemployed people across Pakistan as part of a broader initiative to promote employment and sustainability.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review the government’s Electric Mobility Support Program, the prime minister stressed the long-term economic and environmental benefits of electric vehicles (EVs). He said that shifting to EVs would reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel, save billions of dollars in foreign exchange, while also helping in environmental protection and boosting the local manufacturing sector.
The government will also distribute electric bikes to high-performing students of education boards across the country. Shehbaz Sharif directed that all support schemes should give priority to the economically weaker sections of the society and ensure transparent distribution mechanisms.
The Prime Minister directed the relevant departments to create a comprehensive ecosystem for the manufacturing and maintenance of EVs. He called for third-party verification of vehicle distribution methods and urged the authorities to launch awareness campaigns to educate the public about the government’s electric vehicle subsidy programs.
Federal agencies, including the Federal Board of Revenue, will collaborate to develop a roadmap for the rollout of these initiatives. The scheme is expected to be a significant step towards green mobility and inclusive economic support in Pakistan.
