Pakistan stuns Iran to win first-ever Asian U-16 Volleyball title

BANGKOK: Pakistan’s U-16 volleyball team has written its name in the history books by winning its first title at the AVC Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship by defeating defending champions Iran in a thrilling final.

In a dramatic encounter at the championship in Thailand, the young Pakistani team staged a thrilling comeback after falling two sets behind and eventually won the match 3-2 with a set score of 22-25, 21-25, 30-28, 25-21, 15-10.

Iran was the favourite and reigning champion, and even started strongly and dominated the first two sets. But the resilient Pakistani team refused to give up. With unmatched determination and grit, they fought their way back into the match, forcing a decisive decision and building their momentum to a memorable victory.

The victory not only secured Pakistan’s first U-16 Asian title but also ended Iran’s hopes of back-to-back championships.

Pakistan’s journey through the tournament was nothing short of flawless. The Green Shirts remained unbeaten, starting their campaign with a 3-0 win over South Korea. They followed that up with another straight-sets victory over Indonesia in the crossover round.

In the semi-finals, Pakistan put in a brilliant performance against arch-rivals India, sweeping the match 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 with superior strategy, power and precision.
