GILGIT: Pakistan is taking a significant leap forward in advancing its IT infrastructure and freelancing opportunities, particularly in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

Recently, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), Special Communications Organization (SCO), and the Gilgit-Baltistan School and Education Department signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to establish the region as a hub for IT freelancing, digital education, and innovation.

Key Partnerships and Initiatives

The first MoU outlines a partnership between PSEB and the IT Department of Gilgit-Baltistan to establish Software Technology Hubs in Diamer, Ghizer, and Nagar. These hubs will serve as key innovation centers, with PSEB providing technical expertise to drive development.

The second MoU involves SCO, the IT Department, and the Education Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, focusing on setting up 14 IT centers in schools across the region to enhance digital literacy and provide essential IT skills.

These initiatives highlight the government’s commitment to transforming Gilgit-Baltistan into an IT hub, creating opportunities for local youth through training and professional development.

The freelancing centers will utilize IT labs established in 14 schools during the second shift, boosting the region’s IT capabilities and contributing to economic growth.

Key officials, including IT Advisor Suraiya Zaman, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Abrar Ahmed Mirza, and Sector Commander SCO Colonel Faheem, attended the signing ceremony, demonstrating the government’s dedication to this initiative.

Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faiz Ullah Faraq emphasized the significance of these partnerships in the region’s digital transformation journey.
