QUETTA: The Balochistan government has made significant changes in the education system and announced several new measures to abolish the requirement of uniforms at the primary level and increase the literacy rate.
A high-level meeting chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti approved extensive reforms in the province’s education sector.
It was decided in the meeting that uniforms will not be mandatory for students at the primary level, while a gender-free school policy will be introduced to provide basic education to boys and girls in the same school.
It was informed in the meeting briefing that a double shift system will be implemented in 900 government schools to increase the literacy rate. In addition to this, it has also been agreed to increase the salaries of NCHD teachers, who have been frozen for many years.
According to the Secretary of School Education, additional rooms will be constructed in 3,000 single-room schools in the province by next year, while uniform teaching materials will be provided in all government educational institutions to improve the educational capabilities of children.
Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti, while announcing the end of the tat culture from government schools, directed that provision of desks and furniture should be ensured for every student. In the modern era, it is unacceptable for children to study sitting on the ground.
He clarified that he himself will make surprise visits to remote areas to monitor educational facilities and will also reach them by helicopter wherever necessary.
