KARACHI: All educational institutions from across the Sindh province will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, to celebrate Shab-e-Miraj, one of the holy occasions of Islam.

As per an official notification issued by the Sindh Education Department, the Sindh government has declared the day a public holiday for schools throughout the province, meaning that all public educational institutions under the department will be closed for a day to allow students and staff to participate in the celebrations and observances accompanying Shab-e-Miraj.

Shab-e-Miraj, or the Night of Ascension, is an important date in the Islamic calendar that commemorates prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) night journey and ascension to meet Allah Almighty.

Annually on the 27th of Rajab, the occasion is characterized by special worship, gatherings, and festivities. Muslims gather in mosques after Isha prayers for congregational worship, lasting until Fajr, and participate in Mahafils-e-Naat and other gatherings. Homes, streets, and mosques are beautifully decorated with lights and decorations.

In this holy night, prayer services and visits to graves are common practices observed to pray for the forgiveness of souls departed into another world and blessings from Allah Almighty.

The occasion is a period for spiritual reflection, prayer, and devotion and is celebrated with great enthusiasm by Muslims around the world. The holiday tomorrow will allow students and staff to observe Shab-e-Miraj and recharge themselves before getting back to their studies after the special day, even though an official holiday has been declared only by the Sindh province.
