LAHORE: The Education Department has decided to launch a teacher licensing system in 2026, making it compulsory for both government and private school teachers to obtain a professional teaching license.

According to the report, a summary for approval will soon be sent to the provincial cabinet. Under the proposed system, candidates will have to pass a licensing test to be eligible.

Only those who pass the test will receive a government teaching license. The Punjab Examination Commission (PEC/PECTA) will oversee the testing process.

The School Education Department stated that the licensing system aims to improve teaching quality, professional standards, and learning outcomes across Punjab.

In another development, the Punjab government has extended the deadline for submitting application forms for the School Teachers Interns Programme.

The official announcement stated that the applications of candidates could be received now till November 24. It said that the merit list would be displayed outside schools on November 26 at 10:00 p.m., while the interviews of the shortlisted candidates would be conducted on November 29.

Appointment orders for selected interns will be issued on December 1, 2025. Officials said the program has received more than 220,000 applications thus far, reflecting strong interest from aspiring teachers throughout the province.
