ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani, has officially endorsed the initiation of the Summer Internship Program 2025 under the Senate’s current Outreach Initiative that seeks to involve young people in the legislative process.

The program will be initiated on June 16, 2025, and will last for eight weeks. A total of twenty-one university students have been chosen from prominent institutions, such as the Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST), National University of Modern Languages (NUML), and National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST).

The program is aimed at increasing the knowledge and field exposure of the students, especially in social sciences and technology, to the legislative and administrative workings of the Senate of Pakistan, particularly amid the current budget session.

Before the formal commencement of the program, the selected candidates will be oriented for two days at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS). In the orientation, they will be exposed to the Constitution of Pakistan, legislative procedures, and operations of the Senate Secretariat and its Standing Committees.

Under this flagship scheme, the Senate Secretariat has already registered 20 students from Quaid-i-Azam University, National Defence University, Bahria University, and NUST (June–August 2022) and 18 students from seven Islamabad schools (July–August 2024).

In keeping with his vision of inclusivity, Chairman Senate has also introduced an unpaid six-week internship program since taking office in March 2024. The Secretariat has thus far successfully held internships for a total of 426 students from different universities in the country.

Expanding on this success, the Secretariat will now introduce the second phase of internship in the A and O Level schools of Islamabad for wider youth participation in the democratic as well as the legislative process.
