KARACHI: Sindh is on the path to bring about a transformation in education for the transgender community by launching the province’s first transgender education policy. The Chief Minister of Sindh has directed the Education Department to take this important step, setting an example for other parts of the country.
As per the details, the Sindh government spokesperson Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani highlighted that Sindh is the only province that is actively working to develop a dedicated policy for transgender education, which reflects its commitment to inclusion and equality.
He also noted that the Sindh government had earlier approved a job quota for transgenders under the Sindh Civil Servants Amendment Act, which will enable them to get government jobs both on the basis of merit and through specific quotas. Furthermore, Sindh became the first province in Pakistan to allocate a quota for transgenders in the local government system.
Hemanani emphasized that these measures are aimed at upholding the fundamental rights of the transgender community while promoting equality. He further said that the efforts of the Sindh government will not only empower transgender people through education but will also increase social awareness among them and improve their socio-economic status.
