LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has unanimously approved changes in the Undergraduate Programs Regulations 2024, clarifying the clauses on promotion of students, probation, and drop-out in the semester system.

The Syndicate approved the changes at its 90th meeting held on Wednesday, with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore in the chair.

As per the clarification, undergraduate students such as BSc Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Doctor of Pharmacy are now expected to earn at least 50 per cent marks individually in theory and practical exams. There will be a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 for the conferment of a degree.

Students with a GPA of 1.7 and above who have passed all courses will be promoted to the following semester. For students who fail a course or want a better grade, a “resit” examination will be given after two semesters.

If the student fails in the resit exam, he will be sent back to the previous semester, and if he continues to fail, he may be asked to be dismissed from the program.

Nevertheless, these students will be granted a one-time opportunity for readmission for the entire period of the program.

The policy also requires makeup classes for those students whose attendance records are below the stipulated minimum.

The Syndicate also confirmed amendments to the just-announced undergraduate examination results under the updated regulations.

The meeting was joined by Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Nadia Naseem, Prof Maryam Malik, Dr Zahid Pervaiz, Prof Tayyaba Waseem, Prof Sidra Saleem, Prof Samina Kausar, and UHS Registrar Kiran Fatima.

Prof Arshad Cheema, Prof Sofia Farrukh, and other secretaries of the Punjab Finance and Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education departments joined the meeting through video link.
