ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declares Rana Faraz Noon the winner of NA-154—a PTI-backed independent candidate as a member of the National Assembly from (Lodhran).
Following a contentious recount, the ECP withdrew former state minister for interior Abdul Rehman Kanju’s victory notification by the Lahore High Court’s ruling.
The electoral body took the step for restoration of Noon’s victory notification in compliance with the orders of the Lahore High Court. It withdrew the notification for the success of former minister of state for interior Abdul Rehman Kanju, having been issued following a recount.
Kanju was defeated by Noon from NA-154 with a margin of 6,499 votes. However, the recount converted his defeat into victory with a lead of 7,301 votes.
According to Form 47, Noon had secured 134,937 votes, which in the recount surprisingly dropped to 120,683. Kanju had obtained 128,438 votes, which were slightly reduced to 127,984.
