12 police personnel martyred in Rahim Yar Khan rocket attack

RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least 12 policemen were martyred and 6 were injured in a rocket attack on two police vehicles by bandits in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab on Thursday.

As per the details, the devastating attack took place in the Machka area, one of the riverine areas of Rahim Yar Khan.

According to police officials, two police vans carrying more than 20 personnel got stuck in rainwater when the robbers attacked them with rockets. As a result of this brutal attack, about a dozen officers were martyred, seven were injured and four were reported missing.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack on the Punjab Police and paid tribute to the martyred officers. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured policemen and assured that the government would help the families of the martyred policemen.

Bandit groups operating in riverine areas have long posed challenges to law and order in Sindh and Punjab provinces, despite several operations to eradicate them.

In April, the Committee to Review the Implementation of the National Action Plan, in a meeting held at the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NECTA) headquarters, decided that the Sindh and Punjab Police should take action against notorious dacoits in Sindh’s slum areas.

Joint action should be initiated. The directive was given by Interior Minister Naqvi, who presided over a high-level meeting in which the Interior Secretary, NECTA and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) chiefs and Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Jammu and police chiefs. attended.
