ISLAMABAD: Founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday criticized the army’s treatment of the country’s former spy Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, calling him an “asset” that was wasted.
As per the details, speaking informally to reporters at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Imran said the army’s investigation into Faiz Hameed was his “internal matter” and had nothing to do with it.
However, he noted that holding the former DG ISI accountable was positive but suggested that accountability should be across the board.
The former prime minister alleged that General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa removed Faiz Hameed at the behest of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. He revealed that there was a heated exchange between him and General Bajwa after this decision.
The PTI founder also cited Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports, which claimed that Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan often visited General Bajwa. He said that Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s recent comments regarding Bajwa’s extension vindicated his position.
Touching on constitutional issues, Imran warned that if the PTI was denied its reserved seats, it would be another constitutional violation. He indicated preparations within the party to challenge such violations.
