Punjab govt takes swift measures amidst Pneumonia surge

Authorities continue to monitor and respond to the situation, emphasizing the importance of public awareness.

LAHORE: The capital of Punjab, Lahore, has experienced a notable increase in pneumonia cases, prompting immediate attention and measures to address the situation. Within the past week, reports reveal a concerning 19 deaths attributed to pneumonia in the city.

In the latest 24-hour period, ten individuals have sadly succumbed to pneumonia in Punjab, contributing to a total of 55 pneumonia-related deaths in the region over the past seven days. Lahore alone has reported 62 new cases of pneumonia within the last 24 hours.

Responding to the escalating situation, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on January 10th an extension of winter vacations for nursery and prep students. The extension, now scheduled to last until January 19, 2024, aims to mitigate the impact of pneumonia, which has claimed the lives of 36 children in Punjab within the initial 10 days of January.
