LAHORE: An emergency alert has been issued regarding 6 important medicines, in which these medicines have been declared a serious threat to human health.
According to the details, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has revealed the sale of fake medicines at medical stores across Punjab and has issued an emergency alert regarding 6 important medicines.
Describing these medicines as a serious threat to human health, DRAP has directed to immediately remove them from the market and seize the stock.
DRAP says that specific batch numbers of the medicines have been proven to be ineffective and fake in laboratory tests.
Eye drops (Galantram): Eye drops (Galantram) used to treat cataracts have been found to be fake, and their use poses a serious risk of affecting vision.
3 different medicines related to pregnancy and other medical problems of women have also been declared fake, while this medicine used to treat fungal infections has also been found to be substandard.
Apart from this, an injection used for hormone therapy and tissue regeneration has also been proven to be fake.
DRAP has ordered all provincial drug inspectors to immediately seize the stock of these medicines held by medical stores, pharmacies and distributors.
The report revealed that the specific batch numbers of these medicines were manufactured illegally instead of by a registered factory.
Citizens have been directed to check the batch number and DRAP registration while purchasing medicines and to immediately inform the authorities in case of any suspicious medicine.
Instead of improving the patient’s condition, the use of fake eye drops and hormonal medicines can lead to permanent disability or complex diseases.
