KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted “rain/thunderstorms with a possibility of heavy rainfall” in Karachi and several other districts of the province today, as Sindh gets ready for bad weather.

On Friday, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah proclaimed a half-day for all government and commercial offices in Karachi and declared a rain emergency in the province in response to a warning from the Sindh Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) anticipating possible urban flooding.

According to the Met Department’s most recent alert, there will be “rain/thunderstorms with heavy rainfall” in the province’s northern regions from February 29 to March 2. From March 1 onward, other sections of the province should see similar circumstances.

The PMD has issued a warning that prolonged periods of heavy rain could cause urban flooding in low-lying regions. Fishermen in Sindh are recommended to use caution at this time, and those in Balochistan are advised to refrain from going out into deep water until March 1.

The PMD predicts “rain/thunderstorm with heavy falls” in a number of districts, including Kambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sukkur, and Dadu until tomorrow morning, attributing the weather patterns to a prevailing “westerly wave over Balochistan and adjoining Sindh.”

According to the PMD’s rainfall report, there was traces of rain in Mohenjo Daro, 3mm in Larkana, and 12mm in Jacobabad over the past 24 hours.
