PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared that it will contest the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) ruling that its intra-party elections were invalid and that the party’s election emblem, the bat, should be removed.

The PTI’s legal team will challenge the contentious ruling before the Peshawar High Court (PHC) today.

The legal team, which is headed by Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar, argues that the ECP’s ruling is invalid from a legal standpoint and expresses concerns about the removal of an election symbol at a non-related party’s request.

The group is anticipated to submit a petition asking for the ECP’s ruling to be suspended, claiming that doing so would be in violation of the laws governing election procedures.

“It is illegal to withdraw an election symbol at the request of an unrelated person,” the PTI Legal Team emphasized in a statement, highlighting the importance of adhering to established legal norms in electoral matters.

Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, the Central Senior Vice President of the Awami National Party (ANP) and a former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, responded to concerns regarding the removal of the PTI’s election symbol in Mardan. During a press conference, Hoti hinted that the ANP might also remove its election symbol.

Hoti stated, “Perhaps another similar decision against ANP would have to be taken in order to justify PTI’s symbol being withdrawn.”

“The decisions taken against us in the last two elections will not be tolerated anymore,” he continued to voice his displeasure. He insisted that all decisions be made in accordance with the nation’s laws and constitution.
