Public Holiday Announced for Feb 8 Election

On February 8, the day of the general elections, a public holiday will be observed, according to a notification released on Thursday by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The election administration announced the change, stating that the nation will be able to cast votes conveniently for the first time in over five years thanks to the holiday.

The development was made public after an important conference about the situation of peace and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan was conducted today at the office of the election commission in Islamabad.

In light of the general elections, the Punjab administration made the decision a day earlier to keep all of the province’s colleges, universities, and schools closed from February 6 to 9. The Punjab cabinet decided that both public and private educational institutions would be affected by the decision.

“With the approaching general elections on February 8th, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from February 6th to February 9th,” Punjab’s acting chief minister, Mohsin Naqvi, stated in a post on X. He did clarify, though, that the 9:30 a.m. school opening time will only be kept until February 3. Later on, regular school hours will be followed, he continued.
