Fact check: Syra Yousuf caught shoplifting in grocery store?

ISLAMABAD: A video featuring Pakistani actress Syra Yousuf allegedly shoplifting from a grocery store has gone viral on social media.

In a video recorded on a CCTV camera, Yousuf can be seen, wearing a black hoodie without covering her face, allegedly stealing edibles from a store.

She can be seen in the video entering the facility to reach a rack in the middle of a grocery store.  After speculating the surroundings, she covered her face with a hoodie, grabbed a box of chocolate, placed it into her bag, and exited the store without paying.

The video gained traction on the internet with her fans criticising her for this surprising act. Some social media users termed it as a part of an advertising campaign while others questioned the video’s authenticity.

Fact Check:

As the clip started circulating on the internet, the Sinf-e-Aahan actress confirmed that the act was part of an advertisement for a chocolate product.

She shared a video on Instagram with the caption, “I confess!”.

In a video, which seems an advertisement, she confessed about taking the chocolate bars from the store, because of their mouth-watering taste, and suggested her fans buy the item.
