ISLAMABAD: The poliovirus tally in Pakistan has reached 65 after another child from Balochistan was diagnosed with the wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) on Tuesday.
The National Institute of Health’s Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication has confirmed that a one-and-a-half-year-old child from the Killa Abdullah district has been affected by the virus.
This marks the seventh polio case in Killa Abdullah, bringing the total number of cases in Balochistan for this year to 27.
Other provinces have also seen a rise in cases, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh each reporting 18 cases, while Punjab and Islamabad have reported one case each.

According to the Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, around 400,000 polio workers across 143 districts of the country will visit every household to administer polio drops to children below five years.
