ISLAMABAD: The Indian government reached a new low when it banned famous celebrities’ Instagram accounts, denying Indian fans access to singer-actor Ali Zafar, Mahira Khan, and Hania Aamir.

When Indian users try to access the accounts of popular celebrities, they are now greeted with the warning, “Account not available in India,” as tensions between Pakistan and India continue to stand at an all-time high. certain is as a result of our compliance with a court order to limit certain content.

The action comes as the Indian government launched a more extensive crackdown on digital information coming from Pakistan. Following the Pahalgam incident, 16 Pakistani YouTube channels—including well-known networks like ABN News,  ARY News, and Dawn News—were suspended earlier this month for allegedly disseminating “sensitive” content.

Further restricting cross-border digital participation is the ban on Indian users of the Pakistani government’s official Twitter account.

Not all Pakistani public personalities have been impacted by the prohibitions, which seem to be targeted. The fact that Fawad Khan’s and Atif Aslam’s Instagram profiles are still accessible in India indicates that the enforcement is selective and may be dependent on the type of content or official orders.

Hania Aamir has been especially affected by the limitation; according to reports, between 30 and 40 percent of her Instagram followers are from India.

The actress’s online presence and fan interaction in the area have suffered a serious blow with the loss of access to such a sizable audience group.
