KARACHI: The autopsy of famous model and actress Humaira Asghar has been conducted at Jinnah Hospital, with the reason for death held back until the final report is submitted.
Reports say inquiries are in progress after the body of Humaira Asghar was found decomposing in an apartment on the fourth floor of a residential building in the Ittehad Commercial Area, Defence Phase 6, under Gizri Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Late in the night, the body was taken to Jinnah Hospital for autopsy, which has now been done. The body has been shifted to the morgue.
The body was in a state of advanced decomposition, according to Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed. The post-mortem report will determine the cause of death once it’s ready.
Two mobile phones have been recovered by the police belonging to Humaira. The mobile phones have been taken to the forensic lab for data recovery. As per the call log of the recovered phones, her last call was made in October 2024.
As per SSP South, Humaira may have been operating a third mobile phone, which she may have been using actively to keep in contact with someone.
Yet any definitive declaration regarding the incident at this point would be hasty. Greater clarity will be achieved after expert reports and analyses arrive.
He said that the flat in which Humaira resided has not been thoroughly searched yet. The judicial bailiff said that a report of preliminary findings has to be made to the court before the apartment can be opened and a thorough search conducted.
The SSP further said that in case suspicious evidence is discovered from the post-mortem, attempts will be made to register a case on behalf of the family.
Yet, Humaira’s father has refused to return to Karachi or accept the body. This is being attempted to be convinced of by the authorities, but if the family refuses, a case will be registered with the police as the complainant.
He also added that no one from the showbiz community or people who were known to Humaira have approached the police so far.
Even neighbors reported not seeing her recently. CCTV footage from the area has been reviewed, but no recordings show Humaira entering or leaving, nor has anyone else been seen entering her apartment.
The SSP concluded that various aspects of the incident are being investigated, and any developments in the case will be shared with the public as they emerge.
