Sania Mirza named sports ambassador of Dubai

DUBAI: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has been appointed as a Sports Ambassador by the Dubai Sports Council, a prestigious addition to her career, here on Thursday.

As per the details, she shared the news with her fans on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the honour.

Mirza posted several pictures from the event organised by the Dubai Sports Council, writing, “It is an honour to be a Sports Ambassador for Dubai.” She thanked the council for giving her this wonderful opportunity.

The event was attended by notable figures from the world of sports, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Mirza has been receiving a stream of congratulations from her fans on social media, appreciating her latest achievement.

After retiring from professional tennis after the 2023 Australian Open, Mirza has focused on her family, especially her son Izhaan Mirza Malik. Although she has retired from competition, she continues to participate in major events and remains active in the world of sports.

Established in 2005, the Dubai Sports Council is a government body responsible for promoting the development of sports within Dubai. It oversees the activities of seven local sports clubs and is particularly dedicated to encouraging sports participation among women and children.
