Tejas Fleet Grounded after Another Crash Raises Safety Concerns in Indian Air Force

The Tejas fleet grounded decision was taken after another fighter jet accident earlier this month. The aircraft was badly damaged during landing, but the pilot managed to eject safely.

According to Indian media reports, the incident happened after a routine training mission. The jet faced a serious problem while landing at an operational air base. Early reports suggest a technical fault or brake failure may have caused the accident.

After the crash, the Indian Air Force stopped flying around 30 single-seat Tejas jets. These aircraft will undergo detailed technical inspections and safety checks. Officials want to find the exact cause before allowing flights again.

Reports say the damaged aircraft suffered heavy structural damage. Because of this, it may not return to service. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed the final reason yet.

This is the third major loss of this fighter aircraft since its induction. The first accident happened near Jaisalmer in March 2024. The second incident took place during the Dubai Airshow in November 2025, where a pilot lost his life.

The latest crash also comes at a time when the Tejas programme is already facing delays. Deliveries of the new Mk-1A variant are running behind schedule despite large orders placed by India’s defence ministry.

So far, the Indian Air Force has not released an official public statement on this latest crash. The Tejas fleet grounded move will remain in place until safety clearance is completed.
