SHIKARPUR: In a ceremony held in Shikarpur, Sindh, 71 robbers from Kachha surrendered to the police and unconditionally surrendered their weapons.

The ceremony was attended by DIG Larkana Nasir Aftab, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, and the Sindh Home Minister, where a large number of robbers laid down their arms and surrendered to the police under the surrender policy of the Sindh government.

DIG Larkana Nasir Aftab said in his address that the Kachha area was known for kidnapping for ransom and dacoity in the past.

However, a comprehensive policy was decided to eliminate this problem in a meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari a year ago.

He said that modern facilities were provided to the police, which resulted in an effective operation, in which the police, Rangers, and intelligence agencies participated together.

According to DIG Larkana, 105 dacoits have been killed so far, while 71 dacoits surrendered to the police, and 209 weapons were handed over to them in today’s ceremony.

IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said in his address at the ceremony that kidnapping for ransom incidents were common in different parts of Sindh for the last 40 years.

He said that although most areas of Sindh have been cleared, some parts of Shikarpur and Ghotki have not been completely cleared yet.

IG Sindh further said that so far 171 dacoits have been killed in various operations, while 421 were arrested and injured.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said in his address at the ceremony that establishing peace is everyone’s desire, and the government’s policy is clear that dacoits should lay down their arms and become peaceful citizens.

He said that the police worked under the aggressive but conciliatory policy of the government and this success was possible with the cooperation of the heads of different communities.

He said that those who surrendered would be allowed to become useful citizens of the society, while the government would provide development projects, roads, and educational opportunities for children in the Kachha areas.

The Home Minister further said that the government intends to provide employment and Benazir Income Support Program cards to the people of Kachha, so that they can lead a peaceful and prosperous life.
