ISLAMABAD (Zubair Kasuri): Bank Alfalah has announced a significant change to its international lounge access policy for Optimus and Titanium credit card holders, sparking frustration and confusion among its customers.
Effective from April 1, 2025, the benefit will only be available to passengers whose flights are delayed, a move seen by many as a severe curtailment of a previously valued perk.
The announcement, delivered via text message to affected cardholders, states, “From Apr 1, 2025, Optimus/Titanium Credit Card for international lounge access is only available for passengers with delayed flights.”
This abrupt policy change has been met with criticism on social media platforms, with customers expressing disappointment over the loss of a key benefit they considered when choosing the Optimus or Titanium credit cards.
Many are questioning the rationale behind the decision, arguing that the lounge access was a significant factor in their loyalty to Bank Alfalah.
“This is completely unacceptable,” stated one affected customer on Twitter.
“I specifically chose this card for the international lounge access. Now they’re taking it away? This is a breach of trust.”
Another customer expressed concern about the potential impact on frequent travelers, stating, “This change makes the card practically useless for those who travel regularly. The lounge access was a major convenience, and now it’s gone.”
Bank Alfalah has yet to release an official statement explaining the reasons behind the policy change. However, the move is speculated to be an attempt to manage the increasing costs associated with providing lounge access to a growing number of cardholders.
While the bank has provided a contact number for inquiries, customers are demanding more transparency and clarity on the matter. Many are questioning whether they will continue to maintain their Optimus or Titanium credit cards in light of this significant reduction in benefits.
The situation raises concerns about the communication and customer relations practices of Bank Alfalah. Customers expect clear and timely communication regarding changes that directly affect their benefits.
The lack of a detailed explanation has only fueled the anger and frustration among cardholders.
Adding to the concern, there are growing questions regarding whether Bank Alfalah issued this notification to its credit card customers without the prior approval of the State Bank of Pakistan.
Banking regulations typically require financial institutions to obtain regulatory approval for significant changes to customer agreements and benefits. If Bank Alfalah implemented this change without proper authorization, it could face regulatory scrutiny and further erode customer trust.
