BANNU: At least three Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel were martyred and two others injured in an exchange of fire with militants in Spina Tangi area of Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the incident took place during an intelligence-based operation when the personnel came under heavy fire from terrorists hiding in the area.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Benjamin and Constables Inam and Musawar were martyred in the firing. Two other CTD personnel Wafid Khan and Imran were injured and shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The spokesperson added that two militants were killed in the encounter, while others managed to escape taking their injured comrades with them. Security forces recovered a cache of weapons from the scene, including assault rifles, improvised explosive devices, hand grenades and ammunition.
Following the clash, police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a comprehensive search operation to trace the escaped militants.
Speaking to the media, DIG CTD condemned the loss of lives and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. He said that we will not let the sacrifices of our brave officers go in vain, CTD will avenge the blood of our martyrs and deal with the terrorists with an iron fist.
