Rawalpindi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that if he were not the party chairman, he would have spoken more openly about the efforts being made for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Speaking to the media at the Marble Factory checkpoint near Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar said the party was not informed in advance about Imran Khan’s second medical check-up.
He stated that although the government had mentioned a date, they were unaware that the examination would take place at night. He added that they were informed after the medical examination had been conducted and thanked authorities for providing the update.
The PTI chairman demanded that the founder be treated at Shifa International Hospital in the presence of his family members and personal doctors. He stressed that there was no justification for obstructing medical treatment or meetings.
Barrister Gohar emphasized that PTI believes in democratic and constitutional struggle. Referring to discussions about a proposed “Rihai (Release) Force,” he clarified that the party does not support any illegal or unconstitutional step.
“We are a political party and believe in political struggle, not armed struggle or militias,” he said, adding that any action would be taken within the framework of the Constitution and law.
He also acknowledged that mistakes may have occurred on different sides during efforts to shift the PTI founder for treatment but said the party is trying to improve the situation in good faith.
“The founder PTI cannot stay away from politics; he remains a central figure in the country’s political landscape,” he remarked.
Responding to reports about internal differences, Barrister Gohar said that Aleema Khan never asked him to resign and that his position as chairman is a trust given by the PTI founder, which he would leave whenever directed.
