LAHORE: The Punjab Police has launched a province-wide biometric verification system at all police stations in a major step toward improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the registration of complaints and criminal records.

The new system requires biometric verification for all complainants and accused persons, according to official sources who state that it was developed through a partnership between the system and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The initiative establishes biometric authentication as the mandatory requirement for all First Information Report (FIR) registrations, together with complaint and accused record registration, because police documentation needs to start with verified identity checks.

Police stations have received orders from authorities to implement biometric authentication through the Police Station Record Management System (PSRMS) to complete digital identity verification operations.

The senior officers have been assigned the task of first checking equipment availability at all Police Stations, which must complete their biometric device installation within the next seven days.

The system will function as a public verification system because it will simultaneously track police personnel attendance, which serves to reduce absenteeism while establishing internal accountability standards in the department.

The Inspector General of Punjab Police has directed all concerned officials to submit a compliance report within seven days, which requires all provincial departments to start their implementation process.

The officials stated that the police initiative serves as a part of police reform efforts which aim to achieve digitization and better service delivery while minimizing human intervention in record-keeping operations.
