GUJRANWALA: A local court in Gujranwala summoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman while hearing a petition to register a case against him over an alleged controversial speech.
According to reports, the petition against Maulana Fazlur Rehman was filed by Gujranwala senior lawyer Manzoor Qadir Advocate, in which it was taken a stand that legal action should be taken on the issue of the alleged controversial speech.
The petition was heard in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil, where the court ordered to issue a summons notice to Fazlur Rehman after preliminary proceedings.
The court has directed Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear on July 28, while the police have also been ordered to submit a report on the matter.
According to sources, the petitioner presented a position in the court that action should be taken on the issue of the alleged speech by fulfilling the legal requirements. The court, after examining various aspects of the petition, set a date for the next hearing.
On the other hand, there has been no detailed response from the JUI on this issue yet.
