Chicken price drops, Mutton, Beef still high in Lahore
KARACHI: The cost of chickens is going up again because the Market Committee has increased the official price of broiler meat by Rs. 15 per kg.
As per the recent price list approved by the government, the rate of broiler meat has been set at Rs. 483 per kg. Similarly, the wholesale price of live broiler chicken is Rs. 319 per kg, and the retail price is Rs. 333 per kg.
However, despite having the updated official rates, it has been reported that many retail stores in the city still sell broiler meat at a price far exceeding the government-approved ceiling price.
Residents say that over-charging has been a common practice, and shop owners ignore the official price list and charge customers much higher prices.
This has become a cause of concern about ineffective implementation of the pricing policy and lack of appropriate action taken to stop profiteering.
Another piece of news on the pricing front is that the cost of farm eggs is now higher than before. This is because the Market Committee has hiked the official price of farm eggs by Rs. 1 per dozen to Rs. 234 per dozen.
