CM Sindh lifts wheat sale limit, orders fast payments to farmers

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has decided to remove the limit on wheat sales and has directed to intensify the wheat procurement campaign and ensure prompt payments to farmers.

A meeting was chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah regarding wheat procurement. In which he also took a major decision to remove the limit on wheat sales.

The Sindh Chief Minister said that now small farmers will be able to sell wheat without any restrictions. He said that removing the condition of five sacks per acre will provide great relief to farmers.

The Sindh Chief Minister directed to intensify the wheat procurement campaign and ensure prompt payments to farmers.

In the meeting, Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-uz-Zaman, while briefing, said that the wheat procurement campaign has been going on since April 1. The Sindh government has set a target of purchasing 1 million metric tons of wheat, while wheat has been cultivated on about 1.94 million acres in the province.

The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the payment system and said that timely payment is very important for the confidence of farmers.

He directed that all eligible farmers should sell their wheat at government procurement centers to ensure food security.

The Sindh Chief Minister said that farmers who sell wheat to the government will be eligible for future subsidies.
