Court approves bail for SM Qureshi in Shadman Police Station arson case

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore has granted bail to PTI Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the Shadman police station fire case on May 9.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul held the hearing after hearing the arguments of both sides yesterday. The court granted bail to Shah Mehmood Qureshi on a surety bond of Rs 100,000. The decision on bail in the case of burning a police vehicle near Jinnah House will be taken on June 26. Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar completed the arguments on behalf of Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

His lawyer Rana Mudassar Umar told the court that the allegation of conspiracy against Shah Mehmood Qureshi on May 9 was not proven.

The lawyers said that there was no mention of conspiracy in the FIR, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi was in Karachi on May 9 for the treatment of his wife. Qureshi was arrested after a delay of 13 months. The lawyer said that if Qureshi had any role in May 9, why was he not arrested earlier? Qureshi’s lawyer said that the accused involved in the cases have been granted bail, so Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s bail application should be approved. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has submitted a bail application in the arson case at Shadman police station.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi has filed a bail application in the case of burning a police vehicle near Jinnah House. The cases include provisions of sedition and inciting public riots.
