Shah Mehmood Qureshi challenges indictment in Shadman police station vandalism case

Shah Mehmood hospitalized; PTI's old leadership plan 'Release Imran Khan' movement after hospital meeting

LAHORE: PTI Vice Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, along with other party leaders, has challenged the indictment in the case related to the vandalism at Shadman police station.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), led by Judge Khalid Arshad, heard the case at Kot Lakhpat Jail. Qureshi’s lawyer requested details of the cases against his client and asked the court to summon those who registered the case. The court adjourned the hearing until August 10.

Previously, Qureshi was placed under judicial remand following his alleged involvement in the May 9 riots. The court denied extending his physical remand and placed him under judicial custody for 14 days. During his physical remand, he was interrogated at Adiala Jail.

Notably, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) recently acquitted both former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case.

The IHC’s Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb announced the verdict, overturning their earlier 10-year sentences from January.

Despite this acquittal, neither Khan nor Qureshi is expected to be released soon due to ongoing sentences in other cases. Khan remains imprisoned due to sentences in the Toshakhana and Iddat cases, while Qureshi faces arrest related to recent incidents from May 9.
