Newlywed bride becomes target of gang-rape by husband’s friends

SAHIWAL: A bizarre incident of gang rape has shocked the nation, where a newlywed bride became a target of gang rape traumatizing the people of Sahiwal.

The assault took place only days after the victims’ marriage in Chak No 6, a suburb of Sahiwal. According to reports, the victim and her husband went to visit her husband’s friend, Nadeem, who, along with two other friends, later took them to a local dera.

In a shocking turn of events, the three assailants locked the husband identified as Iqbal in the room and returned to the house, where his wife got gang-raped.

The ordeal finally came to an end when the health of the victim began to deteriorate, allowing the accused to escape, and leaving the door open. Iqbal soon reached Kassowal Police Station to lodge the first information report (FIR) and for an investigation.

The police swiftly handled the situation and arrested two suspects, while efforts to apprehend the third one are still underway.

This gruesome crime is a pointed reminder of the pervasive issue of sexual violence against women in our society. To add salt to the wounds, what makes this a horrible betrayal of trust is that the assailants turned out to be his husband’s friends.

The community is rocked by the event, and quick and stern action by the authorities is needed to bring the persons involved to justice.
